Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Con 2018

Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Con 2018 (BCC-2018) will be the first international conference in Texas devoted to blockchain and decentralized technologies. It will be an opportunity for all involved in the arena, whether they are building Dapps and crypto-assets on blockchains, implementing DAOs, mining and trading cryptocurrencies, developing blockchain-based tokens and protocols, operating in the ICO spectrum, or involved on the regulatory side of things to come together to explore and exchange ideas around a technology that’s set to completely reshape how we interact and conduct business in the coming years.

If you’re a developer, R3, a fintech startup that counts more than 100 of the world’s top banks and financial institutions as partners, will be conducting a 2-day Corda developer training course at more than a 60% discount off the price you’d pay in other locations (it’s $3000 in other locations). That 2-day class is currently only available in London, New York, Singapore, and Tokyo, so this is your opportunity to take the same class closer to your neck of the woods.

And Blockmatics, a leading trainer in the blockchain arena, will be conducting three separate training classes – a 2-hour Ethereum Smart Contract Workshop for developers, a 6-hour Business of Blockchains class, and a 1-hour Blockchain for Lawyers class. (Details of all these classes that will be available at the conference further down.)

So it’s going to be a fun-and-learn event. Seating for the classes is limited, so register now!

The venue for the conference will be the Addison Conference & Theatre Centre in Addison, a northern suburb of Dallas, Texas, and the conference dates are Thursday, February 22 – Saturday, February 24, 2018. Half of that time will be for the formal training classes, while the other half will be for standard conference presentations, discussion panels and an AMA session. To be notified of any changes prior to the event, please follow us on Twitter.

A technology conference, besides providing an opportunity to listen to awesome speakers, should also offer options for hands-on learning. So we teamed up with R3 and Blockmatics to offer developers, business executives and lawyers blockchain training classes. Continue reading to find the right class(es) for you.

About Corda Developer Training Class

Corda training is an intensive, structured two-day course for developers. This course will provide developers with the key skills necessary to develop financial grade distributed applications on the Corda platform.

Corda is an open-source distributed ledger platform designed to record, manage and automate legal agreements between businesses. It offers a unique response to the privacy and scalability challenges facing decentralised applications. Corda is the culmination of a collaborative effort with over 70 of the world’s largest financial institutions.

On course completion, participants will leave with the ability to develop CorDapps (applications on Corda), as well as understand the security, network design and other key aspects of Corda’s architecture. Sessions will be provided directly by the team building the Corda platform.

If you register for and take the training at this conference in Dallas, Texas, you’ll be given a 6-month, unlimited access to the R3 learning management system (LMS), which contains hours of Corda Distributed Ledger Technology online training.

About the Ethereum Smart Contract workshop

This 2-hour workshop for developers will be conducted by Blockmatics.

Get started programming Smart Contracts on the Ethereum blockchain with this hands-on workshop.

The topic of blockchains and digital currency has exploded over the past 18 months. As proof, the total market cap for cyrptocurrencies surpassed $100 billion in July 2017. With global enterprises from Walmart to JP Morgan, IBM, Microsoft and more all getting involved, the need for experienced programmers for these veteran and newly minted companies alike is growing at an unfillable rate.

Experienced blockchain developers demand big salaries. What types of developer positions are out there? Check out this Coindesk article.

Want to get into Ethereum coding but don’t know where to start? In this workshop, you’ll learn what a smart contract is, the programming language Solidity, and then write and deploy your first smart contract.

Programming will be on a web-based IDE named Remix.

Workshop Agenda:

  • Introduction to Ethereum and Smart Contracts
  • Interactive demo of a smart contract use-case [Etherisc Insurance Dapp]
  • Install and setup Metamask
  • Overview of the Remix IDE
  • Introduction to Solidity syntax, keywords and expressions
  • Solidity features: modifiers, fallback functions, events
  • Writing a lottery smart contract
  • Deploying and interacting with smart contract

Prerequisites:

Previous programming experience is required. Some familiarity of JavaScript is ideal, but other programming experience is sufficient too.

Requirements: Laptop, Chrome browser (with ability to install plugins).

About the Business of Blockchains class

This is a 6-hour class that will be taught by Blockmatics, who have managed to distill 6 months worth of independent research into a 6-hour class.

Want to learn what blockchains are all about? From theory to implementation, this course has you covered. With hands-on exercises, understand how to reframe your service or product using a blockchain.

Blockchain technology represents a fundamental shift in how we add value to a system by removing the need for trusted third parties. This creates the opportunity to build organizations, governments, and social networks never thought of before. The Internet allowed people around the world to connect digitally. Blockchain allows people to transact and pass data back and forth in a decentralized, more transparent, more secure way.

Our graduates walk away with a solid foundation and understanding of how consensus is achieved in distributed systems, how smart contracts can facilitate automated business logic, the different types of blockchains available, and why this technology is going to disintermediate industries.

Upon completion of the course, a Certificate of Completion with your name will be published on the Ethereum Blockchain.

Class Agenda:

  • Hands-on with bitcoin and wallets
  • Using a blockchain explorer
  • Technical overview: Hashing, Mining, Nonces and Difficulty
  • Use cases of blockchains: Supply Chain, Insurance, Finance and More
  • Types of blockchains: Public, Private, Hybrids
  • Blockchain deficiencies
  • Hands-on with blockchain products: OpenBazaar and Etherisc
  • Launching your own blockchain on Microsoft Azure
  • Group hands-on: Creating a blockchain service

About the Blockchain for Lawyers class

Blockchains, Smart Contracts & ICO’s – What Lawyers Need to Know.

This 1-hour class will be conducted by Blockmatics.

Over $1 billion dollars worth of cryptocurrency has been invested into entities in the first six months of 2017 using a novel fundraising method called an ICO or Initial Coin Offering. These crowd funding mechanisms use cryptocurrency as a way to collect value from investors and in return provide those investors with a token that is crucial within that businesses architecture.

ICO’s, however, are just one use case of blockchain technology. This 1-hour briefing will include an introduction to blockchain, cryptocurrencies and smart contracts. The speakers will then highlight the broad range of legal issues raised by various applications of this technology and the legal and regulatory responses to date.

This class will be conducted by Solomon Lederer, Ph.D. of Blockmatics, LLC and Gregory Rigano, Esq. of Elixr.one.

Class Agenda:

  • Blockchain Technology
  • Initial Coin Offerings
  • Smart Contracts

This course has been approved for Minimum Continuing Legal Education credit by the State Bar of Texas Committee on MCLE in the amount of 1.0 credit hours, of which 0.5 credit hours will apply to legal ethics/professional responsibility credit.
