[Blockchain Today Reporter Jieun Lee] It is expected that an election experiment will be conducted through blockchain in India. According to the experiment, citizens of India will be able to vote in places other than their own district.

“Investigations using the latest technology have already begun, and there will be simulations in the very near future,” said Sunil Arora, chairman of the Indian Election Commission, told Wire.

It is known that the Indian Institute of Technology participated in the Indian Election Commission’s experiment. It is known that the main focus of the election is the identification of the voter and the availability of votes outside the designated constituencies. On the same day, Chairman Arora said that Indians overseas could also vote.

Blockchain technology is used in this system. Sandeep Saxena, Vice Chairman of the Election Commission, said, “After the system verifies the voter’s identity, an electronic ballot is produced through the blockchain. When a vote is made, the vote result is encrypted and a blockchain hashtag is generated. The hash tag is delivered to various stakeholders, and in this case, it will be a candidate and a political party.”

However, he drew a line that it was not possible to vote at home. It just means that you don’t vote in your area, but you have to vote in a designated place.

“The current project is in its infancy,” said Saxena, adding that “the voters must apply in advance to vote for a new method.”

In the case of the United States, unfounded criticism has been aggravated, such as Russia’s involvement in voting and allegations of fraudulent counting. In this situation, India’s experiment is able to argue that blockchain can be applied to other fields such as elections, not just cryptocurrency.
