Over the past year, the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry has been flooded with news such as price fluctuations after breaking the all-time high of Bitcoin, joining the cryptocurrency market by global institutions, and approval and trading of the first Bitcoin ETF in the United States.

Blockchain Today conducted a survey by summarizing the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry in the past year through Real Research, a survey research platform. The survey was conducted on the topics of top 10 domestic news in the cryptocurrency industry, top 10 overseas news, 7 top domestic figures, and 7 top foreign people.

1. Lee Seok-woo, CEO of Dunamu

Seok-Woo Lee is the CEO of Dunamu, which operates Upbit, a representative cryptocurrency exchange in Korea. Upbit is the exchange with the largest number of users among domestic exchanges, and it is the place where the virtual asset business operator report according to the Special Act was accepted. CEO Lee Seok-woo is focusing on building a cryptocurrency and blockchain ecosystem while operating the cryptocurrency exchange Upbit.

2. Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister of Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance

Nam-ki Hong became the second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance under the Moon Jae-in administration, making him the longest-serving Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance in Korean history. He has a position that virtual assets are not money or financial assets, and he is a person who strongly promoted the taxation of virtual assets, which is currently postponed to 2023.

3. Hyunguk Jang, CEO of Wemade

Hyunguk Jang is the CEO of Wemade, a domestic game production company established in 2000. Recently, WeMade decided to merge with WeMade Tree, a blockchain subsidiary, and announced that it would build an open platform that could convert not only its own games, but all games to Play to Earn (P2E).

4. Kiyoung Joo, CEO of CryptoQuant

Cryptoquant, led by CEO Joo Ki-young, is a cryptocurrency-specialized data analysis company that provides professional on-chain data and analysis to cryptocurrency funds and general investors. It provides information by processing on-chain data into data with monetary value such as cryptocurrency surge/fall signals.

5. Kim Jung-ju, founder of Nexon

Kim Jung-ju is the founder and CEO of Nexon, a Korean game company. In 2017, it acquired Korbit, the first cryptocurrency exchange in Korea. In 2018, it acquired Bitstamp, a European cryptocurrency exchange. In May 2021, Nexon Japan acquired 1717 bitcoins worth 113 billion won, drawing attention from the industry.

6. Charlie Braung Crypto YouTuber

Charlie Braung is a YouTuber specializing in cryptocurrency with 466,000 subscribers, and his content is cryptocurrency-related videos based on news. He has the largest number of subscribers among known YouTubers. According to a previous Blockchain Today survey, 17.8% of the respondents answered ‘YouTube’ to a question about a channel to obtain investment information, coming in second place.

7. Kim Hyung-joong, Professor, Korea University

Hyungjoong Kim is a professor at the Graduate School of Information Security at Korea University. In 1974, he entered the Department of Electrical Engineering at Seoul National University, and received his master’s and doctoral degrees in the Department of Control and Instrumentation Engineering. He serves as the president of the Korea Fintech Association and represents the voice of the industry.
