Rococo V1 includes a parachain mechanism for the first time. Parachain slots will be launched when technology permits and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parachain test network Rococo-V1 has been up and running . Rococo is a public test network, jointly maintained by Parity Technologies and the Polkadot developer community. It aims to test the parachain consensus process itself, the parachain established by the community, and the interaction between them. Earlier this year, we released Rococo V0, which is based on the prototype code of our parachain. Now, we have introduced the latest version of Rococo-V1 based on the Parachain consensus , and the same code will run on Polkadot and Kusama. The code base of the Parachain V1 version is the production code we prepared for the Parachain consensus. It is different from V0 in that it includes the mechanism of the parachain and a more robust and scalable software architecture .

Parachain slots (rococo v1 version) will be launched when technology permits and will be allocated on a first-come , first-served basis . Like Rococo-V0, when there are backward incompatible changes, we will periodically restart Rococo-V1, so that we, as a development team, can quickly iterate the APIs related to parachains, so as to promote the Polkadot and Kusama networks as soon as possible Release of Parachain function. To register a parachain team on Rococo, you need to run at least one Rococo validator node and one registered parachain collector . The validator node will run outside the “master” branch of the Polkadot GitHub repository . For more information about running a validator node, please contact us on the Element channel below. Over time, we may ask the team to maintain more validator nodes.

We will not open the registration of parachain in the community until the beginning of next year, that is, no earlier than January 4 , so that the team can rest and recharge during the holiday. We still have an important year waiting for us!

Rococo itself provides support for XCMP-lite, which is our channel-based cross-parachain messaging protocol, which uses the relay chain as the transmission mechanism. This is still integrated in Cumulus, so you can look forward to a release soon, which will provide APIs that use XCMP. In the near future, we will introduce further parachain consensus improvements and Rococo optimizations, because we have completed the development of the last remaining components of the parachain . After that, we can safely say that Polkadot’s code base is fully functional!

Parachain developers and Rococo testnet users can join our Rococo chat room .

You can use Rococo UI in Rococo Polkadot-JS Apps .

The documentation on our Parachain V1 can be viewed in the Implementer’s Guide.

Happy coding and happy holidays!

Rob
