Original title: “Double in half a year! The Web3 Foundation Grant has funded 200 projects! 》
Written by: Web3 Foundation Translation: PolkaWorld
In May of this year, we are happy to announce that the Web3 Foundation has funded a total of 100 grant projects. Now, just six months later, this number has doubled , and we have now passed the 200 grant milestone!
A lot of things have happened since then, and the ecosystem has also flourished.
Since the grant funding was launched in December 2018, we have received 512 applications, of which 219 have been approved and agreements have been signed with 201 companies. So far, 69 teams have completed their projects, and 112 teams have successfully delivered their first milestone. Click here to view all funded projects.
Building the Internet of the Future
The mission of our Web3 Foundation is to cultivate cutting-edge applications for decentralized web software protocols. Our passion is to deliver Web 3.0, a decentralized and fair Internet where users can control their data, identity and destiny. With this in mind, all the projects we fund are open source, especially those related to Polkadot. We are very excited to be able to support so many outstanding teams who share our vision.
Funded projects
The currently funded projects cover all levels of the Web3 technology stack. Almost half involve runtime modules and development tools. The remaining content includes wallets, UI development, tools, cryptography, bridges, etc.
These teams are working on the development of a wide range of decentralized scenarios, including digital identity and privacy, Internet of Things, supply chain management, gaming, and finance.
Global community
Without a community, the network is nothing, and the Web3 community is a truly global community. This is reflected in the geographical distribution of funding. 18.2% of the teams are in China, 11.6% in the United States, 8.8% in Russia, and the rest are in Australia, Japan and Europe.
General and Open Grants
We are still accepting new applications continuously. Our suggestion is to prepare a complete roadmap and choose the type of funding that best suits you:
The General Grants Program: Initially, this grant program has been running since December 2018, providing up to $100,000 in funding. The application system allows teams to submit their requests without disclosing project information.
The Open Grants Program: Provide a fast and effective application method for teams looking for funds of 30,000 US dollars or less (cryptocurrency). The application and review process is completely transparent, and is completely conducted on Github. An open grant can be approved within 24 hours at the earliest. The project was launched in January 2020 and is now becoming more and more popular, as shown in the figure below. In November alone, we signed a grant through open grant almost every day.
In order to expand the scale of open grant and keep the process smooth, we allow external milestone evaluation. See here for details.
