[Blockchain Today Reporter Seo-yeon Jang] The famous pizza chain Papa John’s has started offering cryptocurrency rewards to customers in the UK, Cointelegraph reported.
According to the online service of Papa Jones in the UK, chain stores in certain regions of the UK and Ireland can get 10 euros (12 dollars) worth of bitcoin (BTC) for paying more than 30 euros (36 dollars). Participants can request coins through the cryptocurrency exchange Luno until the 16th (local time).
It’s not yet clear why BTC is offered, but this franchise has a remarkable history with cryptocurrencies. On May 22, 2010 (aka Bitcoin Pizza Day), Laszlo Hanyecz was the first to successfully complete a cryptocurrency commercial transaction on two plates of Papa John’s pizza. The cost of buying a pizza was a few dollars at the time, but now it was 10,000 BTC, which is over $546 million.
Chain stores often provide cryptocurrency-related services during Bitcoin Pizza Day. Last year, cryptocurrency exchange BitFlyer bought pizza at a San Francisco store and donated it to many homeless shelters.
