[Blockchain Today Reporter Ji-Hye Han] From March 1, 2020, the number of Bitcoin ATMs installed worldwide has reached 10,000. According to the latest data from Coin ATM Radar, the current number is 16,835 units, which is a 57.5% increase from last year’s 7,152 units, confirming that 9,683 new machines have been installed. Cointelegraph reported this.
In November 2020, the number of Bitcoin ATMs increased by 80% compared to the previous year. As before, most ATMs, which account for 81% (13,699 of 16,835 units worldwide), are deployed in the United States.
The growth rate in the U.S. is unprecedented, growing 177% since March 1, 2020, rising from 4,945 units to 13,699 units on March 10, 2021. Canada is second only to the number of bitcoin ATMs by country, but only 1,268, accounting for about 7.5% of the world.
The two top countries tracked by the coin ATM radar, Austria and the United Kingdom, have seen a rather choppy trend in terms of Bitcoin ATM installations over the past few years. In Austria, 266 units were the highest in May 2019, with 153 units this week, a decrease of 42.5%.
The UK’s decline is not as pronounced as Austria’s, but a 30% decline from 283 peaks in February 2020 to 199 in a recent survey. Overall, the European figure showed a slight increase from a total of 1,233 units in March 2020 to the current 1,273 units, and appears to be somewhat stable but stagnant.
Coin ATM Radar’s tracking of the cryptocurrency ATM installation speed revealed that 34.6 new ATMs are being installed every day. The majority of these machines are 77.6% buy-only, and 22.4% support both buying and selling operations.
The U.S., Canada, and Europe have the most cryptocurrency ATMs in the world, while Hong Kong (85 units), the Russian Federation (53 units), and Colombia (46 units) have the highest number of ATM locations outside North America and Europe. It is recognized by many countries.
