[Blockchain Today Reporter Jihye Han] Chiliz, a blockchain fintech company that creates a participatory fandom, announced on the 27th that it has signed a partnership with Turkey’s professional football club Bursaspor. Bursaspor is also the club where former Korean soccer player Shin Young-rok played.
Chiliz issues a’fan token’ for the club after signing a partnership with the club. Fans can purchase this fan token to vote in the club’s decision-making. Voting takes place at Socios.com, a voting platform operated by Chiliz. Fans are deciding through fan voting on various elements that can directly communicate with the players as fans, such as the design of the limited edition T-shirt of the club they support, the design of the team bus of the team, and the cheering phrase delivered to the team in the locker room.
Bursaspor is a Turkish professional football club founded in 1963 based in Bursa, Turkey. So far, he has won the Super League title once and the Turkish Cup Tournament Turkie Kupas title. In Korea, it is known that the former Korean soccer player Young-rok Shin, who was called’Young Rok Bar’, played for two seasons from 2008 to 2010. Shin Young-rok was selected as the best foreign mercenary selected by club supporters by playing in 16 games in the first season and raising the attack point of 4 goals and 4 assistance.
Football is famous as a sporting sport supported by local Turkish fans most passionately. However, due to Corona 19, limited spectators are allowed or all spectators are banned for a prolonged period. In this situation, professional soccer clubs have significantly reduced their ticket income, one of the main sources of income. Clubs are creating new opportunities to overcome crises by creating revenue sources through partnerships with Chiliz, and to encourage fans to engage in fan activities for the clubs they support.
Chiliz CEO Alexandre Dreyfus said, “Exactly 10 years ago, Bursaspor became the Super League champion. We hope to experience a newer way of fan activity.” Bursaspor Chairman Erkan Kamat said, “The soccer market has become an important market that actively interacts with fans through innovation in the digital world as well as the stadium scene. We look forward to overcoming time and be able to communicate more closely with our fans.”
Meanwhile, Chiliz has secured the 6th partner club in Turkey only through this partnership. Chiliz officials said, “We plan to release $BUR, a fan token of Bursaspor, to provide a wide range of VIP benefits as well as opportunities for fan participation.” Chiliz said that in the first half of this year, it generated a profit of 120 million dollars (about 135 billion won) through fan tokens, and that some of them will be distributed to partner clubs.
