[Blockchain Today Correspondent Han Ji-hye] El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele announced on the 21st (local time) that he had purchased an additional 21 BTC Bitcoin at 21:21 local time.
According to a report by Cointelegraph, a cryptocurrency media outlet, El Salvador’s President Bukele tweeted, “This Bitcoin investment commemorates the ‘last 21 days of the 21st century,’ and the supply of Bitcoin is limited to 21 million Bitcoins. It’s to celebrate the rarity.”
It also noted that El Salvador has an overall size of about 21,041 square kilometers, adding that “El Salvador is the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as a fiat currency, and this number is no coincidence.”
According to data from CoinGecko, Bitcoin was slightly above $49,000 at the time of purchase.
