As a digital community, DAO has a common mission and wealth. In the past year, with the rise of DAOs (holding billions of dollars in capital) such as Uniswap and Sushi, we have indeed seen certain results in this field, and we have also seen such things as Friends with Benefits and Bankless. The emergence of a new community-led social DAO such as DAO.
With the development of this field, it also brings a lot of opportunities. For those who want to start working in the encryption field, DAO is a good starting point-especially for those who want to quickly get into the web3 native field. This article will introduce DAO’s talent needs and some of the salary schemes it uses so that you can profit from future jobs in the digital world.
Here’s how to get paid from DAO.
🥴 Still don’t know what DAO is? Read the article “WTF are DAOs?”
Why DAO is the next hot spot
The future of work is digital. With the advent of DAO, anyone can start the work of the digital community anytime, anywhere.
Tracheopteryx, the core contributor of Yearn and the head of Coordinape, made a good analogy, comparing Bankless’s DAO Panel to a “bicycle party.” This really speaks to my heart and explains the nature of DAO’s work. Participants can do their best to promote the development of the organization, or they can just sit there and drink beer.
How much you contribute to the organization is ultimately up to you, whether it is 4 hours, 50 hours, or nothing at all.
As people gradually realize the flexibility of DAO work, these digital organizations are rapidly maturing. As mentioned earlier, sovereign individuals will have more opportunities. In the future, there will be more tools and mechanisms to distribute salaries and rewards to core contributors based on their work. Therefore, we see more and more people take this step and start to join DAO full-time.

In order to seize this opportunity, we will delve into some roles, activities and mechanisms. We have seen many communities adopt these concepts in one way or another, and they all provide unique ways to participate in these communities and tell Dajia how to get paid for them.
The picture shows a summary of various DAOs. Choose the ones you are interested in to join.
Different ways to contribute to the DAO
DAO needs people and people to contribute to its core mission. Whether it is a protocol DAO like Yearn and Sushi that wants to create a new paradigm in the field of financial technology, or a social DAO like Friends with Benefits and Bankless DAO that wants to spread culture, there are many ways to contribute and create value for them. As mentioned earlier, the cool thing about DAO is that participants don’t have to join full-time. How long the DAO members invest is always up to them.
With this in mind, getting paid from the DAO may require some commitment and upfront work. You have to prove your worth before you can start earning rewards.
For those who have just started the DAO journey, the best way to get started is to enter the forums and Discords and participate in discussions.
It can be to provide opinions on governance proposals or governance discussions, or to participate in a community conference call. Once you have the know-how, you can start more and more in-depth work, such as helping advance the core DAO project, or providing resources for new members. Most importantly, you are actively involved and provide value to the DAO. Over time, if you are doing the right thing, people will start to notice your efforts!
Once you have established a reputation in the community, more opportunities will emerge. It usually starts by participating in some one-time bounty programs, and then may participate in some part-time jobs, and then hope that these efforts will allow you to get a full-time job.
In other words, DAO usually needs some roles to advance its development. For example, the following roles:
1. Developer: There are never enough technical talents in the encryption field. Almost everyone can use it. Whether it is developing new smart contracts, helping back-end development, building a beautiful user experience, auditing, etc., those who can study and write code will not lack opportunities. What’s more tempting is that they are usually well paid. If you are a technician, the world of DAO is for you to discover-make good use of it!
2. Community manager: Community manager is another key role in the DAO field. This is also reasonable-after all, DAO is a digital community. DAO needs people to manage it. Some of the tasks may include: pointing the right direction for new members, answering questions from community members, managing Discord, or just being a good steward of the community and creating a good atmosphere for everyone (atmosphere in the DAO field is very important!!). If you like to talk to people and make connections, a community manager is a good way to work.
3. Content creators: Similar to community managers, education is also critical. Many DAOs need talented writers and video creators to help them sell their products, services, and even the DAO community spirit to the world. This is also one of the easiest ways to join the DAO, because participants usually don’t need any permission! You just need to start creating content, publish it yourself and share it with the community. If people like what you post, you will naturally enter the track!
4. Designer: Similar to the developer, the designer is an important supplement to the DAO world. The designer’s work content may be as simple as creating thumbnails and images for content creators; it can also be launching popular NFTs to spread the encryption culture; or more complex things, such as designing a smooth front-end interface for upcoming products .
5. Operation & Facilitator: DAO may develop into a very complex organization. There are many things going on. Operators and facilitators play a very critical role. They need to ensure that the entire organization is moving in the right direction and can complete key tasks. If you go deep into the field of encryption, you can certainly advance the development of DAO by providing a key environment for the overall direction and ensuring that the execution logic of the DAO is not problematic. Their work usually includes: being responsible for project management, acting as a multi-signature signer, recommending contributors to the right people, and so on.
6. Financial management: DAO has certain funds and needs to find the best way to allocate funds. This position always welcomes those with financial background, especially when the DAO gradually expands its financial scale to billions or even trillions of dollars, financial management is very much needed. Such as diversified financial management, budget making, issuance of financial reports, etc., these are all skills that any DAO needs.
7. Serving different DAO roles & committees: Each DAO has its own goals, so it needs to serve its specific functions. For example, Year needs Vault strategist to maximize the user’s profitability; Index Coop needs methodological experts to design the best index; Aave needs risk assessors, and so on. In addition, most DAOs have Grant Committees, which require a certain amount of manpower in reviewing applications for funding sponsorship.
Choose development according to your interests! These are the best opportunities for everyone to work in the encryption field, and there are usually more web3 native and unique types of work. In other words, these roles are usually the most difficult to perform, because it requires DAO workers to penetrate the community (and also have a good reputation). Explore the DAO ecosystem and see which ones are best for you.
Different ways to get paid from DAO
DAO infrastructure is an emerging field, and innovative compensation mechanisms are a key part of it. Fortunately, in the past year or so, more tools have emerged to pay contributors in various ways. Many well-funded DAOs in this field also use more traditional mechanisms, such as distributing wages based on U.S. dollars and giving tokens as part of their compensation package (similar to stock options!).
By contributing to the DAO, you can almost always obtain ownership of the community. In my opinion, obtaining ownership of these agreements and communities is by far the largest leverage in the world. Take this opportunity and you will be rewarded.
Based on your contribution, here are some ways to pay.
1. Full-time work: Many well-funded DAOs (ie agreement DAOs) have adopted the standard salary model of many start-up companies. Protocols like Yearn and Sushi pay salaries based on stablecoins and provide native tokens (such as YFI and SUSHI) of the protocol as generous bonuses. It is worth noting that getting a full-time DAO job may require a lot of up-front work, but those who can prove its value can get a good salary. For reference, I see that the salary structure of core contributors is as high as millions of dollars per year (refer to Sushiswap’s recruitment guide).
2. Coordinape: Coordinape is a web3 native salary tool, which is separated from the Year ecosystem. To quickly summarize, this is a tool based on a peer evaluation mechanism. Contributors can allocate “GIVE” tokens among colleagues to each other based on the amount of work completed by their colleagues in a period of time. After the end of the round, users allocate the fund pool proportionally based on the amount of “GIVE” tokens they received from their peers. In general, Coordinape has always been one of the most unique and interesting salary payments we have seen with our own eyes at Bankless DAO. We promoted Coordinape, which had the largest number of contributors (using Dunbar’s number for stress testing), and showed that the final remuneration largely represents the actual work done by individual contributors (that is, the most active contributors tend to rise to The top of the chart).

3. Grants: Almost every major DAO will have a Grants Program. Grants are usually run by a small group of contributors elected by the community, and the operator is responsible for reviewing grant applications and allocating funds accordingly. Protocol DAOs such as Compound, Uniswap, and Aave have a large pool of funds, and they allocate these funds to those who can build unique products or provide valuable services on top of the protocol. If you are a builder, submit a meaningful proposal, and then you can get funding.
4. Bounties: Bounties are nothing new in the crypto ecosystem. But due to the emergence of DAO’s digital work, it has received repeated attention. One feature of the bounty program is that its tasks are relatively discrete and discontinuous, which allows individuals, especially new community members, to participate and add value to the DAO in exchange for native tokens as compensation. The tools for bounty programs are still in their infancy, but Bankless DAO is advancing its development by releasing the Bounty Board. As the infrastructure of the bounty program is gradually improved, the bounty program model will become more and more attractive.
5. SourceCred: SourceCred is another web3 native tool, which is very popular in some communities, such as FWB. SourceCred provides an interesting way to motivate community members to participate in Discord discussions and make governance proposals in the forum. Summarize how this works. Similar to Coordinape, the SourceCred software tracks user messages and participation KPIs (such as counting the number of likes in forum replies, the number of replies under the message, the number of GitHub submissions), and based on these data The user assigns a reputation value (CRED). After each period ends, the tokens in the pool will be distributed to individuals based on the accumulated CRED amount during that period.
6. Revenue sharing: The community is very strong. If you create something that the community wants, they will reward you accordingly based on everyone’s demand for products or services. Enough to allow individuals to get a share of their product income and at the same time allocate a portion to the community’s Ministry of Finance. Bankless DAO, MetaFactory Merch, NFT Showcases and BED Index are the first to apply the revenue sharing mechanism. Under this mechanism, community members can get part of the income from the sale of goods and NFTs. The community provides user groups, and the creator provides valuable products or services that the DAO wants.
in conclusion
The development of DAO is in full swing. For those who want to get a “future” job and contribute to the DAO, there is no shortage of opportunities here. The best thing about it is that you can work flexibly, even if you are a full-time DAO practitioner. You can make contributions flexibly according to the needs of the DAO. The only thing that matters is the actual value of your work.
For those individuals who have gained a lot of reputation in the DAO community, the benefits are many times greater. Whether it is to obtain a competitive full-time compensation package or the joy of being recognized by the peers (peer evaluation mechanism), these new digital organizations have many ways to get paid.
This article only elaborates on the surface of some possibilities.
