In May of this year, in order to decentralize Gitcoin, the GTC governance token was launched . GTC tokens are mainly used to decentralize governance to the community through Stewards. Community managers will actively participate in the advancement of the funding round, determine the size and allocation of the round, approve expenditures, and even help prevent fraud, witches, and collusion attacks against Quadratic Funding. So far, the community has approved the round size and allocation.
In the past nine rounds of donation activities, Gitcoin has “transmitted” more than $10 million in donations to more than 1,600 important projects in the Web3 ecosystem. These projects include large-scale DeFi projects, important Ethereum infrastructure, major Web3 news media, and other art community projects. If there is no donation from Gitcoin, many high-quality public open source projects may miss good development opportunities due to funding problems.
The difference is that the matching funds for the 10th round of donations will be allocated by categories, specifically: Infrastructure Construction (US$195,000), DApp (US$162,500), Global Community (US$130,000), and Latin America Projects in the Americas (US$65,000), organizations building Gitcoin (US$50,000), NFT projects (US$48,750), DGOV (US$48,750).
