Three works that recreated Kim Whanki’s ‘Universe’ with NFT (non-fungible tokens) were sold for a total of 737 million won. This is the highest price ever recorded for an NFT compilation of a domestic artwork.

XXBLUE, a subsidiary of Seoul Auction Blue, sold 3 NFT editions of ‘Universe’ (05-IV-71 #200) in an auction held by Upbit NFT for a total of 194 Ethereum (about 737 million). Won) announced on the 26th that the bid was successful.

The starting price of the auction was 200 million won per work, and after 30 competitions, the first edition was sold for 77 ether (about 290 million won) and the second and third editions were sold for 58.5 ether (about 220 million won), respectively.

An XXBLUE official said in a call with News 1, “Due to the nature of the auction, it has not been confirmed whether the buyers are the same person or different people.” XXBLUE plans to deliver the NFT edited version to the successful bidder on LG OLED TV.

The original ‘Universe’ is a masterpiece that makes you feel the mystery of the vast cosmic space, and was auctioned off at Christie’s in Hong Kong in November 2019 for about 13.19 billion won.

The production of the edited version of the NFT was directed by Lee Ji-yoon, vice president of Locus, which has Sidus Studio X as a subsidiary that plans and manages the virtual human ‘Rosie’.

An official from XXBLUE said, “The auction of Whanki Kim’s NFT works will serve as an opportunity to expand the value of digital art. We will continue to provide reliable digital art for the development of domestic digital art culture.”
