[Blockchain Today Correspondent Han Ji-hye] The world’s first SMS text message sent 29 years ago will be auctioned off in the form of NFT.

According to a Cointelegraph report on the 18th (local time), Vodafone, the British telecommunication company, announced that the world’s first SMS message NFT auction will be held on December 21st.

The SMS, which read ‘Merry Christmas’, was sent over the Vodafone network on December 3, 1992, 29 years ago, and was received by then employee Richard Jarvis.

Vodafone’s SMS NFT can be bid using Ethereum via an online auction. The winning bidder will have exclusive ownership of the communication protocol used to transmit the world’s first SMS.

Vodafone said the proceeds from the auction would be used by UNHCR to help displaced people.
