[Blockchain Today Reporter Ji-eun Lee] While the Chinese government is making various efforts to issue digital currency (CBDC), China’s largest cities, Beijing and Shanghai, are also planning to participate in a digital currency pilot experiment with China’s central bank in 2021.

According to a report by the Chinese state media Global Times, on the 24th, the Beijing market should hurry to develop fintech and various professional services in 2021. One of these is the pilot experiment of CBDC (Chinese name DCEP).

The mayor of Shanghai expressed a similar opinion. At present, an innovative pilot experiment on digital yuan is being conducted in Shenzhen, and Guangdong Province is also known to cooperate with such experiment.

The city of Shenzhen announced, “Through DCEP’s experiment, Chinese people can receive electronic money through gifts such as lotteries.”

Industry sources commented that before the advent of the digital renminbi in the near future, the Chinese government seems more enthusiastic about actively promoting it.
