A new report claims that in 2020, hacking attacks related to cryptocurrency and blockchain have been decreasing.

According to data analyzed by VPN provider Atlas VPN, compared with the same period in 2019, the number of hacker attacks in the first half of 2020 has more than tripled. The data was published in a report released by Atlas VPN on October 28.

According to Atlas VPN data, 2019 was a record year for blockchain hacking. In the first half of 2019, there were 94 successful hacking attacks, and 31 in the first half of 2020.

According to the report, the entire blockchain network encountered 133 successful hacking attacks in 2019.

By analyzing historical data, Atlas VPN analysts indicate that blockchain hacking will continue to show a decreasing trend, noting:

“As 2020 is not over, we expect more blockchain-related violations to occur before the end of the year. However, according to historical data, 2020 does not seem to reach last year’s record high, and blockchain hackers The number of attacks will continue to decrease.”

According to the report, since 2009, hackers have stolen $13.6 billion through 330 blockchain-related attacks. Atlas VPN found that the number of attacks against EOS-based decentralized applications (DApps) reached the highest. The report pointed out that EOS DApp is followed by cryptocurrency exchanges, blockchain wallets and DApps based on the Ethereum blockchain.

As previously reported, the damage caused by fraud and theft related to cryptocurrency reached $4.4 billion in 2019. In contrast, it is reported that hackers caused approximately $1.7 billion in losses through crypto theft and fraud in 2018.
